Carpet Care and Maintenance
When it comes to keeping your space nice and cozy, carpet is a top choice among the flooring groups. Nothing is better than jumping out of bed and stepping out onto a warm and soft floor. Here are some tips to keep your new carpet looking its best for many years.

1. Vacuum regularly to reduce dirt and prolong carpet life

Most dirt, even dust, is in the form of hard particles. When left in the carpet, these gritty, sharp particles abrade the pile as effectively as sandpaper. How frequently should you vacuum? That depends on the amount of foot traffic and household soil to which your carpet is exposed. More use means more frequent vacuuming.
Shaw recommends a vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush or “brush/beater bar” to agitate the pile and mechanically loosen soil particles. The exception to this is for shag styled products with longer yarns which might tend to wrap around a rotating brush and also berber or loop pile carpet. For these styles we recommend a suction-only vacuum.

Be aware that some vacuums have overly aggressive action which may damage the surface of your carpet. An inexpensive, less efficient vacuum can remove surface dirt but will not effectively remove the hidden particles embedded in the pile.

2. Call a professional carpet cleaner.

Even with regular vacuuming, carpets trap dirt, allergens, and oils deep within their fibers. To remove embedded grime and restore freshness, it’s recommended to:
-
Hire a professional carpet cleaner every 12-24 months.
-
Consider more frequent cleanings if you have pets, kids, or high foot traffic.
-
Ensure the cleaning method is compatible with your carpet type.
-
Avoid over-wetting, as excess moisture can cause mildew or shrinkage.
A reputable carpet cleaning service will use industry-approved cleaning solutions that refresh and extend the life of your carpet.

Enjoy your new carpet but do keep these tips in mind to protect your investment.
